Mainly printed material containing a published volume of Seneca's Oedipus adapted by Hughes (1969) with autograph annotations and corrections, and loose pages from a draft of the script together with a letter and notes sent by Richard Blackford relating to the possibility of creating an Oedipus opera. A copy of the script published in Arion: a Journal of Humanities and the Classics (volume 7, number 3, Autumn 1968) is also included. The volume published by Faber and Faber, and the loose papers were in a box-file on Hughes's worktable when he died. This folder contains some undated material.

Ted Hughes was asked by Peter Brook to create an adaptation of Oedipus for a new production to be put on at The National Theatre. The play was first performed in 1968 with John Gielgud and Irene Worth in the roles of Oedipus and Jocasta respectively. Hughes's script was published the following year in 1969.
