Partly typewritten, partly autograph material relating to the publication of Janos Pilinszky's poetry in English. Most of the material consists of letters (with some poetry enclosures) sent to Hughes by Michael Schmidt of Carcanet Press, which published Pilinszky's poetry in English, Peter Jay of Anvil Press Poetry and Janos Csokits with whom Hughes translated Pilinszky's poems. Drafts of translations and a copy of an introduction written for Pilinszky's Selected Poems in 1976 are included. A letter with two pages from a proof and copies of the cover of Janos Pilinszky The Desert of Love (1989); a copy of an interview with Hughes and L. Jotischky relating to the publication of Pilinszky's work and a letter to Daniel [Weissbort] from ‘Denis’ are also included.
