Scope and Content

Partly typewritten and printed, partly autograph. Contains Sacred Drama Trustee meeting minutes (1990-1993), correspondence, press cuttings and reports on environmental lectures and conventions (including a copy of Assisi declarations and a volume entitled 'Celebration Prose Poetry and other Festivities for WWF's 20th Anniversary' (London, 27th May 1981)). A small volume of short environmental plays entitled 'Sacred Earth Dramas 2' is included. Some correspondence relating to fishing is also included although its link to Sacred Earth is unclear. Ted Hughes was a founder and trustee of the Sacred Earth Drama Trust, which was founded following discussion between Hughes and Prince Philip about the need for environmental awareness to be increased and included in religious teaching. The Trust held a competition for people of all ages, asking them to write a play 'based on environmental themes, using mythic themes or traditional stories'.
