Partly printed, partly typewritten and autograph. What is the Truth? consists of a series of untitled poems connected by a narrative. Material includes three printed proofs with autograph annotations and revisions of the content and layout of the poetry and prose. The proofs are dated 12th July 1983, 18th August 1983 and 21st March 1984. Drafts of a piece in which Hughes explains how he came to write What is the Truth?, The Cat and the Cuckoo and the Collected Animal Poems and photocopies of seven pages from What is the Truth? are also included.
