Literary Papers of Harold Pinter. Research materials, notes, revised drafts and completed versions of Pinter's literary works. Arranged by genre in the order: plays for stage, screen and radio; film scripts; dramatic sketches; prose works; poetry. Arranged alphabetically by title within each genre. Volumes within each title are arranged chronologically. The original order of the papers within each volume has been maintained where possible. Includes both produced and currently [2008] un-produced works and published and currently [2008] unpublished works. Add MS 88880/2. Film Scripts. The scripts are mainly adaptations of other’s literary works. The notes and drafts relating to the film 'The Pumpkin Eater' are not present in this collection. Add MS 88880/2/42-44. Pinter Archive. 'The Go Between'; [1964]-1969. Mostly typewritten. An adaptation of the novel by Leslie Poles Hartley [L P Hartley]. Directed by Joseph Losey and released in 1970. The first draft of the screenplay was completed by spring 1964, it was revised and completed in 1969. Add MS 88880/2/45-54. Pinter Archive. 'The Handmaid's Tale; May 1984-Feb. 1987. Mostly typewritten. An adaptation of the novel by Margaret Atwood. Directed by Volker Schlondorff and released in 1990. Pinter completed the screenplay in Feb. 1987 for the original director Karel Reisz. When Schlondorff took over the role of director he wanted some changes made to the script, which were eventually done by Atwood. Add MS 88880/2/82-86. Pinter Archive. 'Proust'; March 1972-Oct. 1972, n.d. Mostly typewritten. An adaptation of the novel 'À la recherche du temps perdu' by Marcel Proust. Pinter collaborated with Barbara Bray and Joseph Losey in the writing of the screenplay. Currently [2008] unproduced as a film, it was made into a two-hour radio play by Michael Bakewell in 1995. It was also adapted for the stage by Pinter and Di Trevis and performed as 'Remembrance of Things Past' at the National Theatre, 23 Nov. 2000, directed by Di Trevis. Screenplay first published as The Proust Screenplay, Methuen (1978). Stage play first published as Remembrance of Things Past, Faber and Faber (2000). The division between professional and personal correspondence and the order of letters within the files has been mostly left according to Harold Pinter's original arrangement. The professional correspondence section is arranged into series of letters in the order: productions; films; poetry; the arts world; political causes, issues and organisations; The Pinter Review. A number of the letters have been annotated at a later date with the surnames of the correspondents. The letters were originally stored in lever arch files; in this catalogue each volume represents one lever arch file, unless otherwise stated. Not all names within each folder have been indexed. Add MS 88880/11. Nobel Prize for Literature Papers. Harold Pinter was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005. The prize was announced on 13 Oct. 2005. The award ceremony took place at the Swedish Academy in Stockholm on 7 Dec. 2005. Pinter's Nobel Lecture 'Art, Truth and Politics' was pre-recorded and delivered via video. Includes copies of the lecture, letters relating to the prize and a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings.Add MS 88880/11/1-12
