Description of: visits to St. George's College, St. Ann's and the convent of the Ladies of St. Joseph prize giving; school at Aranca and Cuneachacauc; detailed account of day to day administration of the island; problem of coloured immigrants from Sierra Leone; shortage of labour and consequent competition over immigrants; much luxury among merchants, but considerable difficulties connected with squatters; earthquake in Antigua, 10 February 1843; appearance of a 'nuclear' comet, 5 March; return of Sir Henry Macleod, 31 March; return to regiment (81st) in Barbados; punishment paradein which a man received 200 lashes for striking a sergeant, 11 April; farewell ball for General Maister, relieved by General Middlemore, 11 May; ordered to Halifax and thence to Quebec to relieve the second Battalion; description of Quebec, the Senate House, Roman Catholic cathedral and so on, and changes since last visit in 1823; visit to Seminary to see collection of paintings including works by Vanloo and Manet brought there during the French Revolution; visit to Convent to see skull of Montcalm
