'Ross'

Scope and Content

Bound script of the play 'Ross: A Dramatic Portrait' by Terence Rattigan, based on the life of T.E. Lawrence. Richard Perceval Graves writes, in 'Robert Graves and the White Goddess 1940-1985' (London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1995. p 297): "[...] Graves had received the script of Terence Rattigan's 'Ross'. This was a play about T.E.Lawrence (who had once enlisted under the name of Ross in the Royal Air Force); and it had been sent to him by the stage producer Hugh Beaumont at the insistence of Alec Guinness. He had agreed to play the title role, and hoped that if Graves liked the play, he might persuade T.E.'s brother A.W. Lawrence to take a favourable view."
