Scope and Content

Correspondence in this series includes: two ms draft letters to Sir John Mullens concerning the end of Charles Graves's engagement to his daughter Elvira Mullens, one being written by Charles Graves (26 September 1924), the other by Amy Graves (27 September 1924), both bearing ms annotations by Graves, and one ms letter from Graves to [George Wren Howard at Jonathan Cape?] headed 'An Apology and an Explanation' concerning his use of these letters in the first edition of 'Goodbye to All That'; correspondence from Germany, including about the translation of the book into German (1929 to 1930); complaints about perceived misrepresentations of individuals and army units (1929 to 1930); textual criticisms (1930); a request for alterations to a passage concerning Wilfred Owen (1957); and comments from the general public (1957 to 1973). Several items of correspondence bear ms annotations in Graves's hand. Also present: photocopy of ms note from Graves to Alan Steele giving a key to characters from the book (November 1929).
