Correspondence from Frederick Lanchester to Professor Robert Lockhart

Scope and Content

Robert Douglas Lockhart was Professor of Anatomy at the University of Birmingham and a friend of Frederick Lanchester. They got to know each other while Lockhart worked at Birmingham University from 1931 to 1938. They corresponded with each other mainly on vision and optics, which was one of Lanchester's interests. See LAN/1/8 for further correspondence on optics. The correspondence continued after Lockhart moved back to his native Scotland to work at Aberdeen University. See also correspondence between Lanchester and Lockhart at LAN/2/21-25.
