Papers concerning the personal archive of Anna Coote (1954-1983), including: notes about a reappraisal of a case of a woman's dismissal from work and the industrial tribunal hearing; the labour situation; papers concerning various cases of dismissal of female employees from various employers, including testimonials; articles on a range of topics, including industry and the law, women at work, outside work schemes, the duties of a Personnel Officer; transcripts of interviews with various secretaries and employers, as well as letters describing personal experience of being a secretary; and typescripts of chapters from a proposed book on secretaries (1954-1975).

Anna Coote is a leading analyst, writer and advocate in the field of social policy. She was Deputy Editor of the New Statesman from 1978-1982, Editor and Producer of current affairs television for Diverse Productions from 1982-1986 and Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director of ippr (Institute for Public Policy Research) from 1989-1998. From 1998-2004 she was Director of Health Policy at the King's Fund and led the Healthcare Commission's work on engaging patients and the public in 2005-2008. Most recently she has carried out work on health and sustainable development as Commissioner for Health with the UK Sustainable Development Commission from 2000-2009. Anna has written widely on social policy, sustainable development, public health policy, public involvement and democratic dialogue, gender and equality.
