1976 British Redcoats Lacrosse Touring Team

Scope and Content

The British Redcoats Lacrosse Touring Team was selected to represent Great Britain and tour to the USA as part of the United States Bicentennial from 21 May to 3 June 1976 playing exhibition matches in Philadelphia and New England with several major clubs and associations. Players were billeted with local families. Celia Brackenridge was appointed captain for the British Redcoats team.

The scrapbook contains good luck cards and notes, tour diary entries, tour programme and itineraries, photographs of the tour, press cuttings, tickets, tourist brochures and postcards featuring places visited by the British Redcoats team, tour songs lyrics, cartoon sketches and ephemera relating to the Bicentennial. It also includes an illustration of the tour mascot - a redcoat soldier - by the coach, Kath Howarth.

The scrapbook is accompanied by a separate team folder which contains names and addresses of team members, order details for team tracksuits, playing positions of team, drafts of tour songs lyrics, a list of recipients for postcards and letters and team member responsible, some additional ephemera, and an invitation from Celia to team members suggesting a reunion in December 1976.
