Set XLVI (1947-1950)

Blue album containing 145 photographs of Bedford Physical Training College students participating in college life. It is likely that the album was presented to the College by the students of Set XLVI as a record of their time at the College. Many of the pages have been titled with a 'theme' and most photographs are captioned but only staff are identified and named. At the beginning of the album is a group photograph of Set XLVI with each individual named.
The images show views of College buildings and gardens and the interior of a student room; students playing hockey, tennis and participating in athletics; resident students at different College houses; cricket, hockey, lacrosse and tennis teams; 2nd and 3rd-year students in national costumes ready for performing National dances on Demonstration Days; scenes of the swimming demonstrations at the indoor Bedford Girls' Modern School Baths performed by 2nd and 3rd-year students in 1949 and 1950 respectively; students relaxing in the garden, picnicking, swimming in the river Great Ouse and at a hockey tournament at Bedford Park (1949-1950); scenes of a tennis match at Wimbledon; series of images illustrating free-standing movements in a gymnastics table; scenes of the Modern dance The Path of Night performed by 3rd-year students and captioned with the name of the movements; scenes from a camping course at Box End, Bedfordshire attended by 3rd-year students - the course was run for the College by staff from the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR).
