The pamphlet was first issued by the Sunderland Education Committee in September 1933 and revised in 1936. It includes an historical account of how keep-fit classes were developed in Sunderland which began with a visit to Sweden and Denmark in 1929 by Norah Reed, Organiser in Physical Education at Sunderland Education Committee, to learn about 'Voluntary Gymnastics'.
