Scope and Content

The letters, many from female correspondents, are mainly of social interest, although some allude to political matters. Lady Grey's circle of friends included members of the families of the 1st Earl of Ellesmere, 4th Duke of Portland, and 1st Baron Auckland. Her most assiduous correspondents, and life-long friends, were Harriet, Countess of Ellesmere, and Emily Eden, the novelist.

Daughter of Sir Joseph Copley, Bart, of Sprotborough, Yorkshire. Wife of Henry George, 3rd Earl Grey (married 1832). No children.
