A bundle of business cards and receipts / bills (e.g. for bars, hotels, and shop purchases) is loosely inserted at the front of the book and further receipts have been inserted at several points throughout.
A letter to Burgess from John Sturrock at The Times Literary Supplement, dated 27 August 1975, is inserted at the page marked 9 September: "At the end of October we shall be having an Italian number of the TLS and we would dearly like to have a contribution from you in it. Would you feel like writing us a piece giving your own view of the Italian literary world?...". Liana Burgess has jotted down some ideas towards the article.
