Administrative / Biographical History

David Bethel became Director of Leicester Polytechnic in 1973 and held the role until 1987. Born in Bath, Bethel served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War before continuing his education at the West of England College of Art and the Bristol University. Before working at Leicester Polytechnic Bethel was the Principle of the Coventry College of Art from 1965-69. He was awarded a CBE in 1983 for his services to Higher Education.
