Toasting Fork, Leicester Municipal Technical and Art School

Scope and Content

Toasting fork designed by Frank Watson, taking the form of a long-handled fork, with two hooks at the end. This fork was designed to make it easier to toast bread on both sides by including a 'flipping' mechanism rather than having to manually turn the bread. It therefore looks different to a standard toasting fork. Made out of metal.

Administrative / Biographical History

Frank Watson studied engineering at the Leicester Municipal Technical and Art School. He subsequently became a policeman. During World War II, he was directed to work at Power Jets at Whetstone where he assisted with the development of early jet engines. Watson also had a dance band in which he played every Saturday night, at the former Bell Hotel, Humberstone Gate. Watson passed away in 1979.
