Administrative / Biographical History

The Glasgow Bach Cantata Choir was founded in 1930 within the Scottish National Academy of Music. The choir consisted of around thirty members, and was open to all students, past and present. Occasionally, a few non-student members were also admitted, depending on their musical ability. The chief requirements for membership were above average sight-reading and ninety percent attendance at rehearsals. The main objective of the choir was to establish a monthly performance of Bach's Church Cantatas, with Academy soloists and an Academy orchestra.
