Administrative / Biographical History

The Dalmuir & West of Scotland Estates Co Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1915  as a property company in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, with registered offices in Hope Street, Glasgow, Scotland. The company purchased lands in Dunbartonshire and elsewhere to be developed for profit. The first shareholders and directors of the company were A B Birkmyre Scott and John Sharp, both chartered accountants from Glasgow. From the company's incorporation, it had a close relationship with William Beardmore & Co Ltd , steel manufacturers and engineers, Glasgow, Scotland. The company applied to the government for a 30 year loan to help finance the company and also to the Heritable Securities & Mortgage Investment Co Ltd, Edinburgh. William Beardmore & Co Ltd acted as guarantors against these loans

One of the company's first acts was to purchase a 5,815 acre site of land from William Beardmore himself to build tenements. The company continued to develop property until 1960  when all its property was sold and the company went into voluntary liquidation.
