Records of Stoddard International plc, Design Archive, Persian Fine Drafted

Scope and Content

These designs are perhaps more appropriately described as drafts rather than patterns or sketches, which have been drawn to scale. Thus the individual items appear to be the multiple parts of a few designs. The vast majority carry little or no contextual information making it hard to easily identify which designs belong to which carpet pattern. However, they are all of Persian design, and a number have been identified as being the draft sections of Templeton's Persian Axminster Carpet 1316 - a reproduction of a Persian Carpet that was in the Musee des Arts Decoratif, The Louvre, Paris, an image of which can be seen in STOD/201/1/1/10 Fine Carpets by Templeton. A number also have design numbers, including 1271, 1272 & 1274, while some carry the dates 1909 & 1910. The majority do have numbers written down one side that helps to match up the design sections from the same pattern. A good number of the designs carry the draft paper manufacturers stamp and there are three different versions of the stamp of'Wm. H. Morley' of Nottingham. All of the paper used is 12x12 pitch and shot, which suggest that these are destined to be high quality carpets.

This description is part of the  Design Archive  which is divided into the 142 sections, each with its own separate description.
