William Pollock matriculated at  University of Glasgow in 1967 and graduated MA in  1971 . He re-enrolled at Glasgow University in 1971 and graduated BD in  1974  . He then proceeded to St John's College at the University of Cambridge to undertake research in the psychology of religion, graduating PhD (Cantab) in  1980 .
