Unbound copy of The King and the Dervish, a mystical poem by Badr ad-Din Hilali. f1: ruled in gilt within blue and gilt margins. Other folios ruled in red within red and blue borders. No date or place of writing of this copy. Written in nasta 'liq, Persian.

Administrative / Biographical History

Badr ad-Din Hilali (d. AH939/AD1532-3), a contemporary of the famous founder of the Mogul empire, Babur, who criticised this poem in his autobiography, Babur-Namah. Hilali was killed in Herat by the invading Uzbeks.
