Administrative / Biographical History
In Wales, three National Parks were created during the 1950s, the Pembrokeshire Coast, Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. In 1957, the Brecon Beacons were designated as a National Park. The Brecon Beacons are full of wildlife habitats. Its size comprises 1344 square kilometres and the public paths are 2000 kilometres long. The cave Ogof Ffynnon Ddu has over 56 kilometres of discovered passageways. The local farmers care for the Park and more than a quarter of the land is either leased or owned by companies or public bodies. One of the aims of the National Park Authority which consists of a member's committee is to conserve historic features. The park's administrative headquarter is in Brecon.
