Ty'n y Braich, Dinas Mawddwy Manuscripts

Scope and Content

Two manuscripts belonging to Ty'n y Braich in Dinas Mawddwy, Merioneth.

They contain an odd mixture of information.

The first consists of valentine rhymes, notes regarding matters in Shrewsbury and Guilsfield, medical advice and copies of legal documents such as an agreement between Mary John Williams of Llanbryn-mair and John Roberts of Darowen on their marriage, 1724.

The second is somewhat easier to decifer. It contains poems and carols by Huw Morus, John Richard and Hugh Jones, details regarding payment of Land Tax in Dinas Mawddwy, 1786, and is peppered with the names of Dinas Mawddwy inhabitants.

Administrative / Biographical History

The property known as Ty'n y Braich is located in Dinas Mawddwy in Merioneth. It is believed that the family who lived at Ty'n y Braich came originally from Llannerch Hudol in Montgomeryshire since there are numerous references to Guilsfield in these manuscripts.
