Diaries and accounts of Robert Roberts, Llansannan

Scope and Content

Diaries, dating from 1835 to 1847, full of detailed entries about everyday life on a mountain farm, namely, Clwt Grugoer in Llansannan. Amongst the activities recorded are winnowing, threshing, feeding of animals, selling of butter at various local markets and trips to Denbigh and Chester. From July 1838, the diaries are written in English rather than Welsh. The Sunday entries are also full and include the names of preachers. In addition, there is an account book for 1846 - 1856, and a list, being a summary of farm activities and events from 1856 to 1871.

No biographical information was available regarding Robert Roberts at time of compilation of description other than that he lived and farmed at Clwt Grugoer in Llansannan, Denbighshire.
