Administrative / Biographical History

Penmaenmawr Young Men's Institute Mutual Society was founded in 1910. At its first committee meeting, held on October 25, 1910, society officers were elected including J. Parry, President, R.D. Owen, Vice-President, J.E. Williams, Treasurer and Ivor E. Davies, Secretary. The Society's stated objective was to promote the intellectual and moral improvement of the members by discussions and lectures on subjects sanctioned by the Committee. It was made up of active members, which were limited to 30 and an unlimited number of associate members who were not asked or expected to speak. The Society, which met weekly, organised lectures, readings and discussions on various social and ethical themes, and participated in debates with local debating societies.

Material is arranged in chronological order and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
