Scope and Content

Comprises: 

  • Minute books of the Co-operative Wholesale Society in North Wales, for branches at Bangor, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Clynnog, Conwy, Holyhead, Llanberis, Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Rhyl and Trefor, 1906-1931.
  • Minute books, reports, balance sheets of the Society for branches at Colwyn Bay, Llandudno Junction and Porthmadog, 1905-1964.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Co-operative Wholesale Society, now known as the Co-operative Group, was one of UK's largest consumer co-operatives. It had branches in districts throughout North Wales including Bangor, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Clynnog, Colwyn Bay, Conwy, Holyhead, Llanberis, Llandudno Junction, Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Rhyl and Trefor.

Arrangement

Material was received on two separate occasions, arranged in chronological order and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
