EXAMINATION AND DEPOSITION: John Owen, Michael Stanley, William Jones, and Richard Ellis, [police inspector], all of parish Holyhead, in the case.v. John Cane for stealing 9lbs of salmon, the property of the London and North Western Railway Co. Deponent J.O. states he is second mate on board the steamer Hibernia. He saw the accused brailing a salmon on the side of the ships funnel. Their cargo contained baskets of salmon, one of which had been forced open and a place where the fish had been was exposed.

i) Statement of Accused: J.C. 'I wish to have it finished here, and to be tried before the bench. Somebody I do not know it being dark gave me the fish to hold.'

ii) Summary Conviction of J.C. at the Valley Hotel for stealing.

Imprisoned in Beaumaris common gaol for twenty four hours.
