PROBATE COPY OF THE WILL of Lewis Rogers dated 1617. HE gives £1000 in trust to Richard Owen Tudor, Esq. of Penmynith, and Mr. Hugh Williams, pa. Esgeivioge, Gent., whom, together with the parson and churchwardens of Penmynith, he appoints feoffees in trust, for the purpose of building an almshouse in the parish for the relief of 10 poor men being over the age of 50 years, each of whom us to receive £5 p. A. Richard Owen Tudor and Mr. Hugh Williams are to receive £20 each for their trouble. There are then numerous monetary bequests to relatives, friends, the company of Barber Surgeons, of which he was a member, and servants. He appoints Maurice Shawe and Henry Roberts, his executors and names Mr. Wooton, Lewis Owen Esq., sergeant of His Majesty's Larder, and Mr. James Kay, overseers of his will. The residue of his estate is to be used for the maintenance of the Penmynydd Almshouse.
