CASSETTE: Conversation recorded by Norman Murcutt when he interviewed his mother Jane Jones of Llanfair P.G. in her 86th year. Topics include the death of her father and mother in 1904. The work of her father as a joiner, cartmaker and wheelright. He made the cart that carried the statue of the Marquis for the top of the column. Her mother was employed by plas Newydd to do the laundry. She talks of the ladies clothes and starching shirts. They had a boiler with a fire. She had 3 irons. Jane used to help deliver milk before school when she was under 10 years old. The milk was carried down from the farm on a yolk and then the milk from the buckets was transferred into cans. She had to carry four pints in each hand up towards Hen Ysgol. It made her hands sore and made her late for school for which she was caned. She talks about her brothers and sisters: Lizzie; Willie; Mary; Bob and Nell. Her and Nell went to Maes Garnedd home after the death of their parents. She talks about her work in service, who she was employed by and what jobs she did.
