LETTER: William Jones, 27 Leadenhall Street, London to his friend [? Capt. John Owen]. He was pleased to hear from his friend as he had been in doubt whether he was still attached to the ship. He refers to his friend's very bad times, being laid up at Cork and Cardiff the effects of the heat etc. in Havana. Discusses shipping matters and refers to the war and the gloom, the unemployment in New York and bad management in government affairs. He hopes his friend will get rid of the books he has on his hands without much loss. He has not seen Mary nor any old friends in London. Asks how he is getting on Glasgow and mentions the strong whiskey there. He will continue to send papers as he knows they will be acceptable.
