Merioneth Liberal Association minute books, 1898-1955.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Liberal Party was founded in 1859, covering England, Wales and Scotland. The Party was made up of county or constituency associations of members; as a national body it had a General Council and Executive Committee. The Welsh Liberal Party was founded as a separate political party in 1966, although it remained closely linked with the Liberal Party. In 1988, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Party was formed after the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party merged, and the Welsh Liberal Party ceased to exist.
