Administrative / Biographical History
Pontypool Local Board of Health was created in Pontypool, Monmouthshire, under the Public Health Act 1848. As a result of the Public Health Act 1872 it became an urban sanitary authority, under the name Pontypool Local Board. The Board was responsible for various aspects of public health including sewerage, street cleaning and highways. In 1894 the Local Board was replaced by Pontypool Urban District Council.
