Administrative / Biographical History

Saron Welfare Association was established in 1934 with the aims of providing members with the means for '...social intercourse, mutual helpfulness, mental and moral improvement and rational recreation' (Rules and by-laws of Saron Welfare Association 1954). Mr Emrys Butler was the first Chairman. Two fields were purchased at Lletygwyn in order to develop them for Recreational purposes. A New Welfare Hall was opened in 1957 by Mr I. Penhallurick, Regional Social Welfare Officer (Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation).
