Scope and Content

The recordings carried include interviews with individuals Archie Miller, Dick Beamish, Morley Williams, Valentina Yendakoff, Jim Evans, Will Paynter, John Winstone, Mrs Brown, Mrs Miller and Bob Boole and Richard Cornelius, mainly being memoirs of life in the South Wales Coalfield and recollections of mining, the mining community, strike actions and political and trade-union activities. The interview with Valentina Yendakoff is conducted in Russian with the aid of a translator and records Valentina's memories of life inRussia and the miners' deputation to Russia in 1926 during the General strike. The collection also includes recordings of discussion groups and local history classes and a recording entitled Songs of the Revolution. The recordings weremade 1970-1988 (c) but cover the period 1900-1986 (c).

Administrative / Biographical History

These recordings mainly concern the South Wales coalfield. They have been grouped together as they do not fit into any of the other audio project collections heldin the Swansea University.
