Administrative / Biographical History

Joseph Moore was the father of Ellen Moore (d. 1900) who married Howel Gwyn (d. 1888) of Dyffryn, and also the grandfather of Joseph Edward Moore of Longford Court (d. 1922) who inherited the Dyffryn Estate and took the name Moore-Gwyn. Francis Edwardes Leach of Plas Cilybell, Glamorgan (1805-1865) assumed the surname Lloyd on inheriting Cilybebyll on the death of his mother. He was married to Harriet Goodwin Page (1810-1862) and one of their daughters Ellen Lloyd (1850-1894) married Arthur Gilbertson (1842-1912), the third son of William Gilbertson. William Gilbertson (1810-1882) of Cwmavon, Glamorgan married Eliza (nee Bramah, 1816-1868). William Gilbertson was a leading citizen in Pontardawe and the founder of Messrs. William Gilbertson & Company Limited. Arthur Gilbertson was High Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1892. He also built the Glanryd House of Pontardawe. Arthur and Ellen Gilbertson had 14 children. Their eldest son, Francis William Gilbertson (1873-1929) married Isabel Francis de Winton Thomas (1869-1955) in 1896. She was the eldest daughter of Illtyd Thomas of Glanmor. Francis was the first President of the University College of Swansea 1920-1929. Their ninth son was Charles Geoffrey Gilbertson (1884-1963) who married Ellen Christabel Moore-Gwyn (1883-1963) of Longford Court in 1908. Ellen's mother was Edith Moore-Gwyn (nee Jephson of Ireland). His cricket team was active in 1922-1931. Before moving to Broadlands House, Bridgend in 1950, the family lived in Gelligron House, Pontardawe, since 1908. Their son, Arthur Geoffrey Gilbertson (1913-1991) was President of The Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, Priory for Wales for the Pontypridd area in 1952 and was Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1970. He was married to Hilarie Williams-Thomas. Their eleventh son, George Noel Gilbertson (1886-1955) married Helen Morris in 1925. He was a Midshipman on HMS Glory (flagship of the China Squadron), 1903-1905. Their daughter was Nannette Pearce (nee Gilbertson, 1929-2001).
