In 1952, Cyril Stapleton, after being so impressed with Stan's act, offered him an immediate spot on the new BBC Showband show which he was in the process of forming. He was looking for a comedian who was a little different from the normal stand-ups and he was to be the comedian/compere for each of the three nights the show was broadcast every week. A 2-3 year stint.
