Scope and Content

Stamped 'Stalag VIII B'. It names some of those taking part in the service, including A Wey, ARAN, deputy organist, who was believed to be a soldier from Canton, Cardiff. Other named people: R A Williams, RRCO, organist, Captain Reverend H I Hopkins, speaker.

Administrative / Biographical History

Stalag VIIIB was a German Prisoner of War camp, later renumbered Stalag 344. It was located in Poland near the town of Lamsdorf (now called Lambinowice). More than 100,000 prisoners passed through the camp. In 1943 the Lamsdorf camp was spilt up and many of the prisoners transferred to two new camps. The soviet army reached Lamsdorf camp on 17 March 1945.
