These are the records of Airedale House, 1960-1964.
The Airedale House collection comprises three volumes, which are the only known surviving records from the Centre. These are:
AH/1 Interview book, 1960-1962
AH/2 Interview book, 1962-1963
AH/3 Interview book, 1963-1964
Airedale House, situated at 20 Freeman's Place, Darlington, was a Centre for Men (also known as a Hostel for Working Men and a Hostel for Men) managed by The Salvation Army from 1953 to 1986. Airedale House was leased from the local authority and accommodated between 80 and 98 men. In around 1980 it began to be recognised that the accommodation at Airedale House was no longer adequate and plans were made for its replacement. Airedale House closed in 1986, replaced by Tom Raine Court, a Centre for Men and Women with 30 independent dwellings.
Due to the personal nature of their content, the volumes in this collection are closed for 84 years from the final date in each volume. Former residents can apply for access to their own records.
