Minute books

Scope and Content

These are a summary record of the court's proceedings, written up in advance as far as possible, and annotated or added to by the clerk of the peace during the session. The order books were later written up from them. They relate to administrative and judicial matters and include trials and recognizances, but not presentments. Nos.10-13 in the series are described on their covers as order books, and in fact cover the gap between the first and second series. The entries from Michaelmas 1869 onwards are in a fair hand and are identical to those in the first volume of the order books, second series.
