Scope and Content

Dilys Kathleen Webb (nee. Jones) wife of Edward C. Webb.

Kathleen Jones was born in Llanbedr in 1925 and lived with her family at the Post Office. She trained as a telephonist during the war and married Edward C Webb, a police constable, in 1947. Kathleen and her family moved frequently due to her husband's profession but she returned to work later as a telephonist in Denbigh. She returned permanently to Llanbedr in 1972 to live at Pentre Smithy.

After her return to Llanbedr, she became a Community Councillor, then Clerk of the Community Council and was passionate about local issues such as Llanbedr Hall, the village school and the preservation of Old St Peter's Church. Her community work was recognised in 2000 when she won a 'Woman of the Year' award which was organised by the North Wales Independent Press.

With a strong interest in local history, she became a member of Ruthin Local History Society and wrote a book on Hugh Morriston Davies, the pioneering thoracic surgeon based at Llanbedr Hall in 1998. She disseminated her research through many local talks and lectures.

This varied collection includes material about properties in Llanbedr, Llanrhydd, Ruthin, Efenechtyd and St Asaph; about churches and chapels in Llanbedr; about local families; and photographs of people and places in the county.
