PHOTOGRAPHS: Llandudno Rose Festival

Scope and Content

The main focus of the photographs is Terence Bond who was one of the designated Trainbearers. Terence himself rememberd being known as a 'Page Boy'.

The Rose Queen was 13 year old Miriam McLaughlin (Gaines). She was crowned Rose Queen by Miss Gwenda Wilson of Melbourne, Australia, leading lady at the Grand Theatre, Llandudno in the play, "Born Yesterday".

Trainbearers were Sylvia Watts, Pauline Davies, Anthony Frost and Terence Bond (Terry Bond).

Mistress of the Robes was Shirley Evans and Mistress of the Flowers was Vivian Lloyd Jones.

Ladies-in-Waiting were Pamela Monday and Babara Williams. The two Maids of Honour were Valerie Roberts and Joyce Wynne, while Eira Williams, Sandra Kipling, Brenda Hughes and Pauline Owen were the four rosebuds.

Other member of the Queen's court were: Lord chamberlain, Jehangir Mullick; Crownbearer, Farouk Mullick; Earl Marshal, Brian Goldsmith; Bishop, Michael Haywood; Cushionbearer, John Emlyn Williams; Petal Girl, Jean Roberts and the Jester, Arthur Brookes.

Visiting queens also took part in the procession: Rose Queen Ann Griffiths, Old Colwyn; Rose Queen Barbara Jones, Mochdre; Rose Queen Doris Cooke, Penrhynside; Rose Queen Rachel Hughes, Bryn Pydew; Rose Queen Thelma Williams, Rhyl; May Queen Dawn Lois Jones, Rhyl; Rose Queen Jean Williams, Llysfaen; Rose Queen Maureen Roberts, Llandudno Junction.

The Rose Queen-elect and Court were welcomed at the Town Hall by the Chairman of the Council, Cllr A. Macfarlane and Mrs Macfarlane. Greeting were also extended by the Mayor of Conway Cllr R. J. Jones, J.P.
