Replica of The Grotto at Lourdes at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Conwy

Scope and Content

Behind the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael and All Saints in Rosemary Lane is a replica of The Grotto at Lourdes. The replica was built in 1935 by the Parish Priest at that time, Father McCullach, who was cured after a visit to Lourdes. On the town walls are the Stations of the Cross reminding people of Christ's journey to Calvary. There is also a statue in The Grotto of Bernadette Soubirous who was born at Lourdes. When she was fourteen, Mary, the Mother of Christ is said to have appeared to her telling her to make known the healing powers of the springs of water at Lourdes.
