The Deacons’ Court was in fact made up of the pastor, elders and deacons of the church and was largely concerned with financial matters, ranging from payments to the poor of the congregation to the payment of the minister’s stipend. At York they at first met almost weekly, but soon their meetings settled into a monthly pattern.
