  • Matrimonial Records [Pec.Other/Sel.MB]. Marriage bonds to 1823, allegations from 1664 to 1868 and a list of marriage licences granted 1735-1740, 1790-1794. 5 boxes. Some marriage bonds 1664-1710 are indexed in Yorkshire Archaeological Society Record Series 47, 200-202.

Administrative / Biographical History

This peculiar jurisdiction, formerly belonging to the abbot and convent of Selby, came into lay hands at the monastery's dissolution in 1539. The peculiar court came to exercise jurisdiction over Selby, Brayton, Barlow, Burn, Gateforth, Hambleton and Thorpe Willoughby.
