Administrative / Biographical History
The Skeldergate Mission Hall was opened on the corner of Queen's Staith Road and Skeldergate in 1900 as a permanent home for the local Mission previously housed in the old Wesleyan Sunday School in North Street. Built to accommodate 300 people, the new Hall was part of the York Wesley Circuit and included a Men's Institute from 1908.
The Mission was closed in 1939 when it was requisitioned for the war effort and in 1942 it became the King George VI Club for Officers. After the war it was sold and became a commercial premises.
