Scope and Content

Papers relating to the appointment and resignation of trustees, 1920-1957; papers and plan for a proposed extension of the chapel and the leasing of adjacent land, 1896-1900; correspondence concerning the possible gift of a chapel site by the Wombwell Trustees and a new lease, 1923-1925; papers concerning Miss Ann Kendrew's Trust for the maintenance of the chapel, including extract from will, correspondence, accounts and related papers, 1898-1941; papers relating to the repair of the chapel floor, 1961-1962.

Administrative / Biographical History

A Wesleyan chapel was built at Coxwold in 1865. It was extended in the 1890s.
Originally part of the Easingwold Circuit of the Wesleyan Methodist, and from 1932 single Methodist Connexion, Coxwold subsequently became part of York, North Circuit in 1972.
The chapel was still in use in the 1960s but was converted into a private house in the late 1970s.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.

Acquisition Information

The archive was deposited at the Borthwick Institute in the 1980s.

Note

A Wesleyan chapel was built at Coxwold in 1865. It was extended in the 1890s.
