Administrative / Biographical History

Sir Harold Baxter Kittermaster (1879-1939), KCMG (1936), KBE (1928), CMG (1926),OBE (1918) worked in the Transvaal Education Department, 1903-1907. He becameAssistant District Commissioner, East Africa Protectorate, 1908 and servedas District Commissioner and Officer-in-Charge, Northern Frontier District,1915-1919. He was Senior Assistant Secretary, 1920 and Secretary to theAdministration, 1921, Somaliland Protectorate. He was Governor of theSomaliland Protectorate, 1926-1931 and of British Honduras, 1932-1934. From1934 he served as Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Nyasaland Protectorate. In 1923he married Winifred Elsie Rotherham, with whom he had one son and one daughter.
