South Newington is located 20 miles north east of Oxford and has some of the earliest surviving parish registers in the county.
The earliest two records (PAR180/1/R1/1 and PAR180/4/F1/1) were originally deposited in the Bodleian Library by Rev G.L. Marriott in 1964 followed by the enclosure award in 1966. The remaining material was deposited by the parish in 1980-1981 and originally catalogued Mss.d.d.Par.South Newington. The material was then transferred to Oxfordshire History Centre. Further records were deposited as Acc 2845 in 1988 and Acc 5887 in August 2009.
A conspectus of new and old references is included at the end of this catalogue. Catalogued by Alison Smith in January 2015.
