BANBURY PEACE GROUP

Scope and Content

The Banbury Peace Group welcomed anyone interested in the work of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) or Peace Pledge Union (PPU). Meetings were held each week in Banbury, where discussions were held about topics such as 'Spiritual Disarmament' and talks given by guest speakers such as 'My Contribution to Future Peace' or an account by an American on COs [Conscientious Objectors] in America and conscription. Newsletters and minutes sent by FOR and PPU were read during meetings, as were pamphlets and books on various peace issues.

Leaflets such as 'War Propaganda in Schools' and posters such as those to advertise the Food Relief Campaign of PPU were distributed and displayed by the Banbury Peace Group, and various peace petitions, such as the petition for a 'Constructive Peace' were circulated by the group to churches and organizations in and around Banbury.

For further information about the history of the PPU see their website at http://www.ppu.org.uk/
